New Crosses ~ Part Two

hi there ~ happy monday!

i'm catchin' up... announcing the winner of the cross give-a-way, which i'm a tad bit late doing, but heck ~ that's kind of a slice of life, isn't it?  and it's all good.

i really do love making these crosses...  and here's a new colorway from the brighter-toned ones i posted about earlier.  the peachy-pink ones came from this quilt:

and new life:
detail shot of the quilt:

and these orange ones came from another older paper fabric quilt that included decorative stitching, and a wool roving embellishment, as well as free motion couching.  i added the special vintage rose trim {love!}

and the winner is KARLA Lamb!
thank you everyone so very much for participating!

Sketchbook ~ Refreshment

helllllouooo friends! {that's one my favorite greetings, "Tigger style" {from Winnie-The-Pooh!}

and this is a favorite page from my sketchbook. one side is the flowers, the other a verse..

... shimmer and shine from twinkling h2o's... love 'em.
the word of God.  one that i need to read, re-read, and remember.  Prov 11:25.  Love Him. love His wisdom. i too have big dreams.  small ones too. {and baby ones!}  i encourage you, dear readers, friends, artists... in all your dreams, too. i especially give thanks to all of you for your encouragement to me.  it's big.  real big!
so... moving on in dreams... i had a fun time using a white crayon, which was applied as a border around the perimeter of the page below, and in the swirls of the flowers {above - first pic}, which acts as a resist to the watercolor... love that effect!
and hopefully... i will have some time to play with that technique in other fun ways in my sketchbook.  in the meantime, i'm packing my bag, bible, camera and pj's!  off to a christian retreat and refreshment. beginning tonight through the weekend.  and i'm singing on the music team ~ one of my favorite things to do ~ sing!  i am so looking forward to it ~ to sister time. encouragement time and more.  i hope you have a wonderful weekend, and be encouraged!
Soli Deo Gloria!

Stencil a New Heart ~ {with a new Terri Stegmiller stencil}

hi y'all! {montana drawl}

i got to play with a new stencil over this past weekend. this is one designed by terri stegmiller, for stencil girl.

 terri is a wonderful artist and designer.  i always look forward to playing with her whimsical style.

{and you knew, right ~ true love is a well painted stencil!}
i don't clean my stencils, but sometimes i will wipe the paint off of them  ~ mostly so they won't stick to each other with the wet paint!  otherwise, if there aren't any other potential casualties in the area, i let them be.  i have found that if i clean them, i have a tendency to snag little edges, and bend them.  not cool.  so they stay purty with the various paint colors on them, right?
so i began with a small piece of hand-dyed fabric, and your average, inexpensive acrylic paint.  dabbed here and there in purple, pink and turquoise. i deliberately tried to just 'dab' lightly {didn't always succeed} because my needle doesn't really appreciate a heavily painted surface.

the silver leaf is an embellishment i love to play with, too.

cute button trim for the cardstock backing.
 so what do ya think of that cute stencil now?  fun huh!  i hope you try it!
enjoy~

{New} Puppy Love ~

hi there~!

no... we are not getting another dog ~ {but i want to!}

these are the latest pics from the litter that was born six weeks ago ~ brothers and sisters to our Georgia!

i promised to take some pics and post a few to facebook... trying to get the word out, and hopefully help find some good ranch-style homes for these sweet-tempered border collie pups!

boy was it fun!  {i swear i could live on puppy dog kisses!} lol

now this is quite the face... {see below} i call him "yoda"  {may the border collie force be with you!}  lol!  he is quite a character... don't let the face fool ya!  he actually has two blue eyes, and you can see them much better in the last photo on the post. he has a spot on his head, too. what a handful he is going to be!  {his little nose was dirty with sawdust!}

they are sweet, friendly, and soooo funny!  i have such a good time!!  oh gosh... my hubby patiently waited while i took many, many pictures!
and take a look at this doll face ~ sweet, newborn baby calf born in the snowstorm the night before... getting warmed up in the same shop where the pups are.  i call it "early border collie training!"

some will be smooth coated, and others long.
sam, the mom... taking it easy!  she has raised some very healthy, and good-lookin' pups.  they are so so chubby!!!  and such shiny coats.

it was a tail-waggin' good ol' time!!!  {and yes.... they're all for sale!}  all eight!

well... weekend fun over.  time to get back to work!

Born Again {My New} Crosses ~ {and giveaway!}

hi friends ~

oh gosh... i am so soooo glad it's the weekend already!!  woot!

today i'm excited to show you how i recently decided to change things up a bit! i went through all the quilts i've had for sale in the etsy shop, and decided there were a few things that needed 'new life! '  so i cut 'em up!

don't get me wrong ~ i loved these quilts!  they were fun to make, and i learned so much from just the actual making of them. but it  was time.  and i didn't even hesitate ~ i was that sure it would be exciting... and a great adventure to "see beyond" and see them become new life! {yay}

some were cut up into crosses.  these are sized at 2.5" x 5.5" approximately.  perfect little bookmarks.  i've posted about them before, and you may have seen them if you've been reading the blog for awhile.  but this time it was even more special.  and i just loved how they turned out!!!

if you have a minute to see what these quilts looked like, check out the picture below.  or you can see my original post about this little paper/journal quilt {here}.

"Joy" {comes in the morning}  Yes!  It does!

i made a few hearts from this quilt, too. i'll show the hearts in a future post. it was a dramatic change and... soooo fun.

... dug through some of my jars of ribbons and embellishments, and found this special little embroidered rose trim.  it was given to me in a big old vintage hat box that someone found at a garage sale, and gave to meisn't it sweet?  i thought it was a perfect home for it!

these are all newly listed in my shop!  {two or more you get a discount}.  let me know what you think?
i've got some new ones on my cutting table... and i'm going to give one of them away.  leave a comment on today's post.  winner announced one week from today {on this blog}.  i'd love to send one to YOU!!!

and! {another one to be given away on studio jru's blog today too!}

quite the 'new life' change, don't you think?  love the freedom i have to make that kind of change.  and...

i'm so glad i said yes!

you can win one of the crosses, as well as a little journal quilt i made from some paper fabric i made, which is being offered by jennifer at the STUDIO JRU blogcheck out all the details at studio jru today!!!

spring loves ~

hi everybody ~ how's it comin' in the spring department in your 'neck of the woods?'

our weather has been just a tad bit unsteady ~just like a new born calf~
 and just as serious {at times} as a mamma cow!

the snow drifts are thinning ~ much like the long winter coat from the cattle as the fence does double duty!

 these were all taken on easter... it was a gorgeous spring day...
 spider, the {mostly retired} old cattle horse is taking it easy... nonchalantly ~ which is what spring seems to be doing on most days.  taking it's sweet time...
it's all good... and so spectacular.
 and nothing quite as sweet as a new bunch of baby pups!  {border collies}, that is!  same mom and pop as our sweet georgia girl.  there is eight in this litter.  anyone want a pup?  i know how you can get one {or two!}  lol  {seriously though ~ i do!}  i call this picture the 'puppy wars' ~ taken at easter when they were only 3 weeks old.  how cute is that?  uhhh well, it will only get cuter... gotta get back out there soon... now they are five weeks old!  already biting each other, playing and testing who's boss...
 speaking of easter... we had a BLAST.  sweet, sweet time on the ranch.  here's a shot of the easter egg hunt!  lisa {the older kid} trying to beat the {youngers} to the goodies!  what joy and laughter.

 precious memories!

what a beautiful easter at the swan ranch.  thank you thank you thank you!!!!
 and before we know it ~ summer will be here.  but in the meantime, we can enjoy all that sweet newness of life!  cold, snow... blowing.  bring it on.  spring is comin' down the pipe, and we're ready for it!!
 as we left the ranch, this new baby just happened to be by the road, and i was lucky to get close enough to snap this picture without spooking the momma.

ahhh... spring!  so glad you are here...
even though you change your mind so very often!
we're so thankful ~
have a great weekend!
