playin' with hearts ~ update with austyn mae and rowan

hi friends!

i was cleaning up the sewing studio recently ~ {just a very little bit}, and on my constant "to-do" list are hearts. i keep scraps from quilts, paper, fabric and a combination of the two, and they are thrown into a drawer next to my sewing machine, and when i'm in the mood, i grab a few, put cardstock paper backs on them, attach a simple ribbon, and then simply stitching a zig zag around the perimeter.

i love turning them into small mementos that have a creative and functional purpose, such as bookmarks, but also i send them in cards, or as thank you gifts.

{and it's fun making something pretty} from scraps and bits...

most of them are small; from 2 inches to 4 inches.  although but a small touch, they have big impact {i pray}.  and these small little touches became a ministry, one that touched these two children's young lives.  you may remember darling little austyn mae and sweet little boy, rowan?

these two children were diagnosed with cancer shortly after they were born. we had a fund raiser with these hearts, and a quilt raffle for rowan here on the blog.  i thought you might like to see them, and what an awesome God we have, how our prayers, and kindnesses... made with small bits and big hearts... {thank you again}

here they are now {praise to God the Father} and {get a kleenex}:

recently, as flower girl and ring bearer in a local wedding...

rowan leading austyn up the aisle {she was a bit shy, and a little scared in front of all those people}...
but he never let go of her ... reassuring her every step of the way...

and that's pretty much what alot of life is about.  doing small things with a big love.

thank you Father God.  we praise You and give you thanks, and all the glory is yours!

Austyn Update and Rowan

Praises!!!  Just look at that sweet face! This is Miss Austyn Mae who has been home here in Great Falls for a whole two months, now!
Some of you have written and asked me whether there was information about Austyn, who was born with a cancerous tumor in her leg, and underwent chemotherapy for several months.  Austyn was life-flighted out of Great Falls to Seattle.  Recently, Austyn's Mom,  Justine, wrote as an update on Austyn, dated last Friday, June 15th:
"A little update on Austyn Mae. We been home now for 2 months and it feels amazing for life to be normal :) Austyn is growing up so fast. She now weights 14 lbs! She is rolling over, blowing bubbles and screeching. She is such a happy baby and the love of our lives! We go back to Seattle July 3rd for a checkup. When they removed the tumor there were still cancer cells left behind but there's a good chance it won't metastasize or regrow. Amen! But it's still a little scary and prayers are greatly appreciated :) thanks for all the support thus far and we will keep up to date!"

THANK YOU Father God, for all you do, both seen, and unseen.

And thank you for your prayers for this sweet, young family.  Please continue to keep Baby Rowan; aka "Rowan the Fighter" (see his facebook page under that name, or click link above) in your prayers, too.  What a blessing and treasure of love we share together when we pray together... no matter who it is.
Rowan is, as far as I know, still undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but this was an update posted on Rowan's Facebook page June 1st:  "So about an hour before Rowan was scheduled to start TPN, Justin thought he seemed hungry so he gave him a bottle. Our little fighter hasn't looked back since. There have been no instances of nausea or vomiting since that time and he is eating about double what he usually does and gaining all of his weight back. We are so glad that he avoided TPN and extremely grateful for your prayers! Thank you so much for praying for Rowan, within hours of my post he did a complete 180."
Rowan recently celebrated his first birthday!

If you'd like to send a card to the family, here is an address where they are staying in Denver while Rowan is undergoing chemo treatment"
Brent's Place
C/O The Flatens, Apt 202

And Raffle tickets are still available! But only until June 23rd, (through the blog only) - you can still buy them locally from me.  We will raffle the quilt on June 30th, in Highwood Montana, at the Centennial Celebration. I am giving away a few extra prizes, for all those who buy raffle tickets from me, through the blog... and I can assure you there will be MORE surprise prizes!  If you missed my post on the "Hope Quilt" for Rowan, please see it here for more details, and also, raffle info posted on Friday, May 25th, click here!

Thank you for ALL your prayers!
Thank you Abba Father for your healing touch, grace and mercy, and endless love.  Amen.

My Life in Hearts ~

I have finished all the heart orders for donation to our sweetheart baby girl Austyn Mae.  Little Austyn continues to respond well to the chemotherapy treatments, and we thank God for that!  Her Mom and Dad thank you all for your love, prayers, and support!  I received a most sweet call of thanks from her Gramma, too... so thank you to all of you!  The fundraiser will be March 3rd at the Civic Center in Great Falls. More information on Austyn and the fundraiser can be viewed at this link.

~Thank you ALL for Shining So Brightly~
In love and humble gratitude,

Hearts For Austyn

~Valentines for Austyn~
Austyn is a precious girl born January 12, 2012 at 3:20 p.m. to Ryan and my friend, and Sister in Christ, Justine Marchion in Great Falls, Montana.  Soon after being born, the doctors noticed a mass in Austyn's left leg.  After performing an ultrasound on the mass, the doctors in Great Falls were unable to determine exactly what the mass was and sent the results to Children's Hospital in Seattle, Washington.  Later that night, Austyn and Justine were airlifted to Seattle, and Ryan joined them the next morning.  While in the hospital, the doctors ran a series of tests and found a tumor in Austyn's leg.  The tumor was diagnosed as Infantile Fibrosarcoma.  This form of cancer is very rare and is only reported in 1% of all cancer diagnoses.  In fact, only 20% of all sarcoma cases are reported in people under the age of 35.  The treatment is going to consist of a number of chemotherapy sessions over a 6 to 12 week time period. Once the tumor has shrunk enough, the doctors will then perform a surgery to remove the tumor.  With this form of treatment, there is a 90% chance that the cancer will never return and that Austyn will go on to live a happy and healthy life.
100% of all profits from the sale of any Hearts and Bookmarks in my Etsy store will be donated to Austyn.
You may also support this young family by donating through Austyn's website: http://www.austynmae.com/

What is needed MOST, is PRAYER.  Especially as Austyn has now begun her Chemotherapy. Please ~ please, pray for this sweet family as you feel so led...

For Austyn on Etsy
In praying for this family, I was given this idea from God, as I made hearts all day this past Saturday afternoon. It is definitely not something I desire to draw attention to, or for myself, only that our Lord is glorified.  These hearts - the donations - are 'small things' in and of themselves.  It is prayer that truly moves mountains, when we step out in faith.  We can do no big things... only small things with great love.  And it is with love, honor and Glory for God and Him alone, that any of this is shared, given and received... however God chooses to use it for this sweet, young family. Yesterday (January 28th, Justine wrote:  "Many people have asked how or why a newborn could have cancer straight out of the womb, but all we have been told is that it’s a gene mutation that is extremely uncommon. But from the start our baby girl has been so brave. We get our strength from our faith and remind ourselves if she can do this so can we!  We know God is good and he loves Austyn Mae even more then we do, and he will take care of her through anything. When any child has such a horrible disease it may make people question God. I find comfort in the words of the Lord, Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to PROSPER you and NOT TO HARM you, plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE.” I know that Austyn will be our true testimony to our faith. I encourage you all to read John 9:1-12, the story of Jesus healing that man that was born blind. In this scripture Jesus said “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” I know that Austyn Mae is going to be another one of Gods miracles and she will be cured.   We feel so blessed to have the support of all of you! The way people have reached out to help us is truly touching. Jennifer Herris has been our angel here is Seattle. Her daughter Rylee is a cancer survivor. She is a beautiful 2 year old that has truly given me hope for my daughter. I would ask that you all pray for a few children we met in the hospital; Isabella, a 9 year young girl who is fighting a pelvic bone infection and Japeth a 5 year old boy also battling cancer. Austyn starts chemo this Monday and now that we are settled in the Ronald McDonald house I will be better about keeping you all up to date. Again I would like to thank everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers; we can feel your love all the way out here in Seattle!
Love and miss you all,
Justine"
Thank you Father God, for the miracle of little Austyn Mae.  Please give her Your Mighty Strength as she goes through Chemo, peace and strength for her Mom and Dad, all her family, and Your great love and wisdom for all her caregivers as they face this challenge together.  Amen.
