winner ~a fall decoration ~

happy monday morning!

i had a busy, productive, wonderful, and sweet weekend! baking... quilting... worship... and football {of course!}  i hope you did too!  i completed a special order for a christmas  runner, and enjoyed my time in the christmas fabric bin.  {now i'd better straighten it out again!}  yikes, but i made a mess, cutting, fusing and trying out different versions of letters, before i settled on these:

i wanted the quilting to be subtle and blend in, so both the patterned/lettered fabric and the fusible letters would stand out more, so i chose to quilt this with superior's bottom line polyester 60 weight thread in both top and bobbin.  it was a dream to use.  i don't often use the lightweight threads in my free motion, as i like the quilting threads to show, but not this time.
 i switched to king tut thread {40 weight, 10% ELS cotton} for the straight line stitching in the border, and then applied gold and red metallics {the thick threads} like razzle dazzle, couched into the seams with my bernina #39 foot.
 my pictures are not so great ~ one of those low light days,  and it's really difficult to photograph the color red.  so it goes!

and now to the business at hand... the winner of the posted autumn quilt:  happy cottage quilter!
happy autumn!  thank you~thank you for the wonderful comments.

enJOY your day!

winner ~ and thank you!!

hi there friends!

its so much fun to give things away, and i am making plans to do more of just that, as i approach the third anniversary of this blog in october!  wow ~ what a ride it has been!

but first things first.

ruthanne!  i will send you the 'grace amazing' wall hanging if you will contact me with your address and i will get this sent right off to you!

THANK you so much for all your comments; each one was precious and sweet!

in the meantime... i had friday off from work ~ oh man, what a gift!  i love long weekends!  and i was able to stay on track, sewing up a storm, as they say.  i finished two more skirts this weekend!  happy to report also, that my serger works great!  who knew?!!! lol

and i played steadily at finishing another G R A C E quilt.  {what can i say? it's my favorite word!} in fact, i've been playing with several other words this past weekend, all on smaller quilts, and painting a little bit on them, too.   i've also been hard at work taking pictures, taking notes, and getting inspired.  and i'm  writing another tutorial; this technique is about a beautiful scalloped edge technique on a baby blanket.  and yes... more quilted feathers, of course!   {i have sure loved every minute!}

here's a sneak peek of grace, and a tip or two about metallic thread coming to the blog soon:
and a sneak peek of the cute baby blanket material!  {it's such a 'hooty cutie!!'}   these owls are so adorable!  i swear... i could make lots of these just because they're so fun, fast and simple!  {and did i mention they are cute?!!}

talk to you soon!  thanks for being a reader, and a wonderful encourager to me!

blessings!

Winners!

Good morning from a beautiful, cold & snowy Montana this morning!  We've had about 6 new inches of snow, and it's been blowing and all that stuff.... but I'm so psyched ~ it's weekend time ~ thank goodness.  And time to announce a winner of the Rebecca Baer give-a-way ~ yay!

First, though, here is a picture I took from my iPhone, through my office window, where my desk sits.  I posted this to my facebook account yesterday, as the skies began to clear from our recent storm:
Contrast to the picture taken below of my son, AJ, on the swather, cutting his hay ground in the dusky light from last summer.  Beautiful picture... I just loved looking at this warm summer scene this morning, and thought some of you might like it too?
... and fun news ~ what I hope will be a good reason for y'all to come on and enter another give-a-way, to celebrate a brand new line of stencils produced by Stencil Girl Products, designed by my North Dakota art friend, and fabulous artist, TERRI STEGMILLER!  {woot woot!}.  I'm so excited to be a part of this ... blog hop starts January 20th with Terri!  {don'tcha dare miss it!} A week-long party of terrific give-a-ways, and artsy fun from lots of artists, and my part starts January 21st.

And... last, but definitely not least!  What a treat for me to read all your lovely comments from the Rebecca Baer stencil give-a-way!  So fun! And did you see Rebecca's fun blog, too? Rebecca's Artful Living Blog. I now have it listed in my sidebar of blogs I follow, so I hope you will check it out.  She is a super-talented lady.

So here we go:  I used the random generator here... I hope you are all as excited as me to see who won!
Congratulations to all!  Please contact me as soon as possible with your addresses, so I can send your prize to you.
 Have a great weekend...
I'm off to get my hands dirty! {lol}
 Soli Deo Gloria!

Christmas Cards for My Dad ~ {and winner}

My Dad celebrated his 80th Birthday this past weekend, and we travelled to Billings to help him celebrate with other family members. Only three of Dad's kids could make the party, but this is the picture of us:
Dad, Grandson Adam (my youngest), my brother Ken, Me, my brother Rob

I wanted to make him something I thought he might use, so I made a half-dozen Christmas cards. It's the only thing I could think of that I think he would enjoy, and use.  Especially since he's a watercolor artist himself.
 But I had to figure out to make them into actual mailing cards, as I watercolored these using a 6x6" watercolor paper pad I had purchased earlier this summer.  So I checked out Michaels Crafts, to find some kind of cardstock/envelope package that would make them into cards. They had nothing to fit, so I purchased a pack of plain brown ones, and had to cut the paintings to fit.

 So it worked out okay... I guess.  I do really like the square look, but no one seems to make cards that size, so ... we'll punt, as they say!

 I added a bit of glitter with my silver gelly roll pen.  This is a very subtle look, but I like it.  I also added spatters of watercolor, and the sketchy watercolor frame to each print.  I almost love doing that more than making the trees!  So here's some close-up shots, so you can see that pretty glittery-glow...

The inspiration for these came from a class I recently took, from Christy Tomlinson's website, by artist Junelle Jacobsen.  I enjoyed it so much!

We had such a wonderful time with  Dad and family~lots of laughs, and some story-telling videos of their time growing up on the homestead!  {so funny ~ at least to us!} Good times!  Unfortunately someone messed up {that would be me} and FORGOT her camera!  These are taken from the ipad... Thanks Uncle Dave!
And the winner of the Christmas Mug Rug is commenter #12... drawn by my sweet husband.  And that would be... Jennifer!  Congratulations!  THANK YOU EVERYONE!  I have MORE to give away... some things I have made, but also some from other artists!  Come on back, ya hear?!

Cravin' Some Patchwork and WINNERS!

Good Wednesday Morning everyone!

First things, first!
I used random.org to pick two winners from the 13 commenters for the pin give-a-way I posted yesterday.  I cannot figure out how to capture the image... so you'll just have to trust me.  And since it's my blog... well, it's still my call!  LOL.

Anyway---on to the winner of RED POSY:
Commenter #1 is DONNA!
Thank you so much for commenting, and reading the blog.  It's a blessing and honor to send it on to you.
EnJOY~! Please contact me with your address, k?

Commenter #3 was Teresa in Music City!
Love it that you are a 'heart' person!  Congrats!  Thank you - I'm singing "Mr. Bluebird songs" for you!

But I am also singing songs of praise as I am so APPRECIATIVE of all you.  I am blessed to hear from all of you, contest or not!  And to those who asked questions about the techniques and processes I use to make these pins - I will work on that!  Thanks for asking!  I will gather some 'stuff' and take some pictures {hopefully soon} that will show the ideas I put into these pins.
Sew... part of my Sunday Simpatico last Sunday... (I found out that is the proper spelling of simpatico through merriam-webster.com!)  Yay. Love spelling... but I like it with the Sympatico better!  Suits my creative interpretation, I guess!  Am thinking 'symphony' when I think of Sunday... and Sympatico - together!  Okay, that's probably enough of that!
These are the "Jamaican" flowers I printed last summer... they didn't make the cut for the postcards... so I decided to put them into some wonky patchwork.  I adore these colors.  They really do make me happy.  And I was craving some traditional piecing-patchwork.  And it felt good to use up some scraps and 'floaters' as I call them... those pieces that don't have a HOME to belong to yet and are floating around my studio!!!
Some wild colors huh!  The borders are hand-dyed fabrics I purchased... I wished I had more of that purple green that is featured on two sides, but alas... that was the end of it when I cut it, so I went with what I had...
and now to decide what to quilt on it.  Those pretty little Jamaican flowers are begging for more attention!

EnJOY the day!
